The application period for the Call de Studentships de Investigação para Doutoramento Maria de Sousa - 2022 SEAGULL - Seeking Epidemiological and Virological Answers ended last September 29, with a total of 42 applications submitted. This Call FCT, geared towards obtaining new knowledge to create skills for responses to virological phenomena, has the collaboration of AICIB (Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation) and aims to award 10 Studentships.

The objectives and areas of knowledge with the greatest representation in the submitted applications focus on "Prevention strategies and preparedness for new epidemics of virological origin, including vaccines" (23%), followed by the objectives "Epidemiology and risk factors of infection and severe virus disease" (15%) and "Development of new therapies and new therapeutic approaches, including life support and personal protective equipment to combat virological diseases" (15%).

Women represent 57% of all applications submitted, compared to 43% of male applicants to this Call. As for the typology of Studentship, 78% of the candidates intend to carry out their doctorate in national institutions, 17% in a mixed regime (Portugal and abroad) and only 5% entirely abroad.
