ERA-NET in Industrial Biotechnology: 2012-2016

FCT was a partner in ERA-IB-2 (2011-2016) which continued the ERA-IB network (2006-2011), a project dedicated to promoting transnational cooperation between research funding agencies in Industrial Biotechnology.

ERA-IB-2 started in December 2011 and involved 19 partners from 14 countries (Germany with 4 representative agencies, Belgium with 2 representative agencies, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, France, The Netherlands, Israel, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Turkey and the United Kingdom). ERA-IB-2 launched 5 transnational Calls (JTC-3, JTC-4 and JTC-5, JTC-6 and JTC-7).

The participation of FCT in ERA-IB and later in ERA-IB-2 contributed to the increase of internationalization and competitiveness of Portugal in biotechnology, facilitating the establishment of cross-border partnerships in research in Industrial Biotechnology. Since 2006, and through seven joint transnational Calls , 17 transnational projects were funded with Portuguese participation, involving 21 teams and 8 companies. The new ERA-NET Cofund in Biotechnology in which the FCT also participates, began in December 2016, and intends to continue this collaboration.
