FCT participated in ERA-NET in synthetic biology ERASynBio (2012-2015) a network of 16 partners, coordinated by JUELICH, Germany.

The main goal of ERASynBio was the promotion and robust development of synthetic biology by structuring and coordinating national efforts and investment.

ERASynBio launched two joint transnational Calls , in 2013 and 2014, having funded 15 projects. None of these projects has Portuguese participation. The ERASynbio initiative continued sustainably and in 2017 it joined the ERA-NET Cofund in Biotechnology (CoBioTech).
