The Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES), in collaboration with the Ciência Viva Agency, is promoting a conference entitled "On the Future of Science in Portugal, 30 years after the May 1987 Days" on May 11, at Forum Picoas.

The initiative, which will be attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister, António Costa, the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and also the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Education and Science, Alexandre Quintanilha, aims to be an event of reflection on the main challenges and opportunities for the future of science in Portugal.

The conference will mark 30 years since the National Days of Scientific and Technological Research, held at Fórum Picoas from May 11 to 15, 1987, which led to the formulation of the first Mobilizing Program of Science and Technology for Portugal.

The event will be followed by the celebrations of the "National Scientists' Day", which will take place with a meeting on May 16th at the Rivoli Theater, in Porto, as part of the "Paths of Knowledge" cycle of conferences.
