8th Portuguese Internet Governance Forum Initiative

The University of Beira Interior will host the 8th edition of the Portuguese Internet Governance Forum Initiative on November 13th (Wednesday). This year's theme is "Regaining trust in the Internet". The event is open to the general population and will take place between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., but requires prior registration.

This event has been held in Portugal since 2010 and aims to analyze and share different ideas on how the Internet, a global resource, should be managed and used, involving in this process the participation of public and private stakeholders, academia, the Internet technical community and society in general. Internet Governance involves a multitude of public policy and technical issues, on different rules and principles concerning several relevant topics that include freedom of expression on the Internet, privacy, security, digital skills and emerging technologies.

In this edition, the program will consist of several sessions that aim to discuss topics such as cooperation in digital public policies in the national and global context and the challenges of Internet development; decentralized technologies, including Blockchain, its impact, supervision and contribution to active democracy; illegal content on the Internet and its regulation; and cyberspace and the growing relevance of the attitude and behavior of users, in professional and personal contexts, for cybersecurity. The program will include the participation of António Fidalgo, Rector of the University of Beira Interior, and Nuno Rodrigues, member of the Board of Directors of FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology, and a set of more than 20 guest speakers, experts in the numerous subjects under discussion.

The event is organized by the FCT, in partnership with ANACOM (National Communications Authority), APDSI (Association for the Promotion and Development of the Information Society), the DNS.PT Association, CNCS (National Center for Cybersecurity), IAPMEI (Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation), the TICE.PT Pole, the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the University of Beira Interior.
