Call of IC&DT projects for the Côa Valley selected 7 projects

FCT announced this week the result of the evaluation of the Call of Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects (IC&DT) for the promotion of R&D activities of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary scope to be held in the Côa Valley region.

A total of 32 applications were evaluated, and 7 projects were recommended for funding. The Call has an allocation of 2 million euros, from national funds from the budget of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., and each project will be funded up to a maximum of 300 thousand euros for a maximum period of 36 months.

This Call had as reference the promotion of R&D activities of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary scope to be carried out in the region of Vale do Côa, classified by UNESCO as World Heritage on December 2nd, 1998, and its conceptual framework of discovery of the origin of life, interaction with peoples and cultures, the natural world and biological wealth. It is intended that the projects now selected may develop new knowledge about the region in several thematic areas, such as: observation and knowledge of the earth; climate and climate change; the origin of life and dynamics of socio-cultural interaction over time; and biodiversity and biological resources, natural and cultural heritage and sustainable regional development.

The projects will have to adopt a multidisciplinary perspective and international context, facilitating partnerships with experts and institutions of recognized merit in order to deepen an R&D agenda on the Côa Valley's heritage and its projection into the future.
