Call of projects for Forest Fire Research 2018

Applications for the second edition of Call for Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects in the scope of Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting are open until February 26. The Call provides up to 300 thousand euros per project, and has a total financial envelope of 5 million euros.

This Call is framed within the R&D Mobilizer Program for the prevention and combat of forest fires, created by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 159/2017, following the recommendations of the Independent Technical Commission report that investigated the Pedrógão Grande fires. A total funding of 15 million euros is expected for research projects selected under the three annual Calls planned.

With the support of these projects, it is intended to promote scientific research and innovation, strengthening scientific and technical skills and capabilities, ensuring the appropriation and incorporation of scientific knowledge in decision support in operational systems, as well as the production of new knowledge oriented to solving problems. The research topics are varied, and may include forest resource management and fire prevention, fire fighting, health and safety of firefighting technicians, and meteorology, forecasting and risk management, including communication systems, and biomass valorization among others.
