Three new Clinical Academic Centers created

Today, the creation of 3 new Clinical Academic Centers (CAC) was approved by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor, and the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, in addition to the 9 existing ones. The new centers are: the Clinical Academic Center of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (Administrative Rule no. 126/2022), the Clinical Academic Center of Alentejo (Administrative Rule no. 127/2022) and the Clinical Academic Center of Católica Luz (Administrative Rule no. 128/2022).

The Clinical Academic Centre of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (CACTMAD) is a consortium between the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro Hospital Centre, E. P. E., the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, and the Health Centers Clusters (ACES) of Trás-os-Montes - Alto Tâmega e Barroso, Douro I - Marão e Douro Norte, and Douro II - Douro Sul, represented by the Administração Regional de Saúde do Norte, I. P.

The Clinical Academic Centre of Alentejo (C -TRAIL) is a consortium between the University of Évora, the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, the Regional Health Administration of Alentejo, I. P., the Espírito Santo Hospital of Évora, E. P. E, Unidade Local de Saúde do Norte Alentejano, E. P. E. (ULSNA), Unidade Local de Saúde do Litoral Alentejano, E. P. E. (ULSLA) and the Local Health Unit of Baixo Alentejo, E. P. E. (ULSBA).

The Centro Académico Clínico Católica Luz is an association that aims to enhance the synergies already existing between Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Luz Saúde, S. A., Hospital da Luz, S. A., GLSMED Learning Health, S. A., and União das Misericórdias Portuguesas.

The CACs are integrated structures of care, teaching and clinical and translational research activities, which associate health care units, higher education institutions and/or public or private research institutions. Their main objectives are the advancement and application of knowledge and scientific evidence to improve health.
