FCT launches initiative to fund 24 Studentships PhD students in Quantum Science and Technology.

This Friday, February 15th, at 4:30 pm, FCT presents the Quantum Portugal Initiative at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga. This initiative aims to train new researchers in an area with great potential for solving highly complex issues in science and business: Quantum Computing.

Quantum Computing exploits the properties of quantum physics to develop new ways of processing information. Applications can impact areas as diverse as the creation of new drugs and materials, the simulation of the spread of pandemics, the analysis of financial risk, the stock management and supply chain optimization, facial recognition or even artificial intelligence.

Quantum Science and Technology will be of utmost importance for Europe's digitalization and development and requires the gathering of critical mass and training of highly qualified human resources in this area. The demand for specialists with the know-how and ability to understand quantum technologies is increasing rapidly. Researchers and engineers from academia are now being hired by companies that offer various career opportunities for those with experience in the field.

In this context, FCT will promote a Call for the attribution of 24 Studentships of PhD in the field of Quantum Science and Technology. This Call will be managed by  INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology LaboratoryThe INL will act as a host institution for doctoral students from all over the country, who will be able to use its facilities and competencies. The INL will act as a host institution for doctoral students from universities all over the country, who will be able to use its facilities and competencies.
