(Not available in English)

John Goodenough is a professor at the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT Austin and is considered the "father" of lithium batteries. Maria Helena Braga is a researcher and professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and is leading the research dedicated to a new generation of solid batteries, capable of storing much more energy than lithium-ion batteries, a novelty that has been received with much enthusiasm by the international scientific community.

This promising work was recognized by Professor John Goodenough, who donated half a million euros to boost the project developed by researcher Maria Helena Braga. This surprising donation will make it possible to reinforce the technical and human resources dedicated to this research and also to make the industry aware of a revolution that is waiting to happen in this area.

This revolutionary research may also leverage significant advances in other areas of activity of the UT Austin Portugal program, such as Advanced Computing and Nanotechnology, since the batteries may be used in various fields of application at the service of scientific research.
