This year's FCCN Days marked three decades of innovation

This edition coincided with FCCN's 30th anniversary. The anniversary was marked during the plenary session of the event, with the intervention of Carlos Salema, Director of the Institute of Telecommunications (IT) and first president of FCCN, and the projection of a retrospective video of FCCN's mission over the past three decades, recalling the key moments in the history of the organization. This was also the first edition of the Conference to be attended by a member of the Government. The Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Maria Fernanda Rollo, came to the Algarve to present a paper dedicated to Open Science, entitled "Knowledge for all: Roadmap to a national policy of Open Science". This plenary session also included the interventions of João Nuno Ferreira and Ester Serrão, representing FCCN and UAlg, respectively.

The balance of participation is positive. This year's Conference had more than 260 participants who came from the four corners of the country, including technicians from information services, librarians, researchers, and other members of the scientific community.

In all, it was three days of conviviality and learning, with sessions dedicated to the wide range of services offered by FCCN in the areas of connectivity, collaboration, knowledge, computing, and security.

The Journeys also included some moments of leisure and relaxation, strengthened relationships, and reinforced the camaraderie and team spirit of the research and higher education community.

The next edition of the FCCN Journeys will take place in Vila Real, at UTAD - Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, in 2017.
