New instruments for Scientific Employment

The draft Regulations for Scientific Employment is available on the FCT website. The project will be under public consultation for 30 days after its publication in Diário da República, which should happen soon. Comments can be sent to info.ec@fct.pt.

Consistent with Decree-Law 57/2016, the normal contract for research carried out by doctoral graduates must be contractual. The support to Scientific Employment is therefore a priority for FCT. Thus, this regulation aims to create two instruments to support the stimulation of Scientific Employment, whose first Calls should occur later in 2017:

(1) Support for the hiring of doctoral researchers in all scientific areas and their insertion in research units, funded by the FCT, and respective host institutions, a direct support for the hiring of doctoral researchers, through Calls annually promoted by the FCT, in order to facilitate the continuous and systematic integration of new doctorate holders in scientific institutions.

(2) Support for scientific employment plans and the development of scientific careers by higher education institutions, State laboratories and scientific institutions, public or private, a support for the development of R&D activities by consecrating and stimulating, among others, the hiring of researchers with doctorates by scientific institutions, through Calls annually addressed to institutions and promoted by the FCT.
