Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation Award in partnership with FCT

On the occasion of the International Day of Biodiversity, which was celebrated yesterday, May 22, and whose celebration aims to draw attention to the need and importance of conservation of biological diversity, the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation, in partnership with the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), announces the Call for the Belmiro de Azevedo Foundation Award "Conservation, Restoration and Monitoring of Biodiversity in Portugal", which will be open for applications between June 1 and June 30, 2022.

This award aims to distinguish projects that promote the conservation, restoration, and monitoring of biodiversity developed in Portuguese territory by a national institution.

Institutions with projects aimed at the conservation, restoration and monitoring of biodiversity in Portuguese territory may apply. The project execution must be a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 36 months, starting until December 31, 2022. Proposals must have a researcher holding a doctoral degree for at least 5 years as the person responsible for coordinating the work plan.

The Award has an overall value of 300 thousand Euros, with a minimum value to be awarded per project of 50 thousand Euros. The projects to be developed should aim to have a positive and recognized impact on biodiversity in one or more regions of our country, and meet some characteristics such as: relevance and scientific recognition; sustainability and monitoring of the proposed actions; and partnerships created with the funded project.

The Call is directed to non-profit private law legal entities based in Portugal, higher education institutions and their public or private R&D institutes and units, and individuals of recognized merit with tax domicile in Portugal associated with institutions or legal entities with the characteristics mentioned above.
