Result of the support "GENDER RESEARCH 4 COVID-19

FCT presented the results of the support "GENDER RESEARCH 4 COVID-19", under which 16 research projects will be funded, representing an investment of 506 thousand euros, from national funds through the FCT budget.

The "GENDER RESEARCH 4 COVID-19" is an initiative promoted by FCT, in conjunction with the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality and the support of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), which consists of special support directed to research projects on the impact of the health emergency caused by COVID-19 on gender inequalities and violence against women and domestic violence. Applications for this support ran from May 15 to June 2, 2020, and it is open to proposals and initiatives aimed at producing and disseminating knowledge about the gender impacts of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 and the contingency plans and measures adopted to contain and resolve it. 

A total of 145 applications were received, from which 16 projects were selected for funding, distributed along the following research and development lines framed by this support:
Line 1 - Gender and the labor market during and after the Covid-19 crisis (5 projects)
Line 2 - Covid-19, daily life, stereotypes and gender roles (3 projects)
Line 3 - Covid-19 and violence against women and domestic violence (8 projects)

Of the selected projects, 9 projects are fast track, with a maximum of 4 months for development and a maximum support per project of 20 thousand Euros, and 7 projects are longitudinal analysis, with a maximum of 10 months for development and a support per project of up to 40 thousand Euros.

The Gender Research 4 Covid-19 support is part of a wide range of support, Calls and other initiatives, launched this year by FCT in the context of the fight against Covid-19, including: the special support RESEARCH 4 COVID-19, with two editions; the Call for R&D projects AI 4 COVID-19: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Public Administration; the Summer with Science support, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Higher Education (DGES); the Science 4 COVID-19 portal; the increased capacity of the RCTS - Science, Technology and Society Network, which supports the Internet connections of the education and research community; strengthening the capacity of the services that ensure distance learning and teleworking in the academic and scientific community (Colibri, NAU, Educast, Videocast); and the creation of a COVID-19 page on the FCT website, which gathers all the information that is being issued, directly or indirectly related to this pandemic situation.
