"Summer with Science" will fund 1175 Studentships in 87 training actions

FCT will finance 87 training actions from 22 institutions and 1175 Studentships of research initiation and research, in a total investment of 2.4 M€, within the scope of the special support "Summer with Science", promoted in collaboration with the General Directorate of Higher Education (DGES).

The "Summer with Science" initiative, which allowed for proposals to be submitted from June 16 to 26, aims to stimulate the development of "Summer Schools" at Polytechnics and Universities in the country with integrated R&D and in-person higher education initiatives.

This support aims to finance Studentships and training plans to encourage face-to-face activities of students, teachers and researchers, in the scope of the development of innovative solutions associated with the Economic and Social Stabilization Program (ESRP), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing through a higher qualification of the students.

The support is aimed at students who meet the conditions to be research or research initiation grant holders (articles 5 and 6 of the FCT's Regulation of Studentships ) as well as students with school social action grants; and at higher education institutions and their institutes, State Laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or non-profit scientific associations, public or private non-profit institutions, or business entities in partnership with research institutions.

This unprecedented program had a high participation, which resulted in the submission of proposals by 31 institutions from all over the country, for a total of 294 actions, involving 3251 Studentships.
