European Union's "Reclaim our Ocean and Waters by 2030" Mission

The European Commission, in a side event to the United Nations' Oceans Conference on June 30th, launched a Mission Letter as a call for endorsement of the "Restoring our Ocean and Waters by 2030" mission, open to public and private stakeholders.

This mission aims to protect and restore marine and freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity, prevent and eliminate water pollution and contribute to a circular and carbon-neutral blue economy. This call for membership seeks to encourage a joint effort to achieve these objectives through submissions of concrete actions, namely policies, programs, initiatives or projects within the area in question.

It is the intention of the European Commission to promote a simple and inclusive cooperation framework aligned with the interests of various partners. To this extent, proposals may be submitted by a variety of entities, including public or private organizations, national, regional or local authorities, philanthropists and investors, businesses, civil society, research centers, and others.

The "Restoring our Ocean and Waters by 2030" mission is one of five missions that are part of the Horizon Europe program (2021-2027) and are designed to mobilize resources, actors, funding, regulation, among others, to address some of the most pressing issues facing Europe today, including those related to oceans and waters.

The Mission Letter, which contains the call for submissions, can be viewed here. Submissions should be made at this link.
