Liga Portuguesa contra o Cancro teams up with FCT in supporting cancer research

The cancer charity and support group Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro (LPCC) joins FCT in funding the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP) research team in the european projet NanoEffect, that gathers four other partners from Austria, Norway and Germany.

With €1 million total funding to study mechanisms to improve detection of early-stage colorectal carcinoma (CRC)  through nanoparticle-enhanced fluorescence endoscopy, the FCT-funded portuguese research team, coordinated by Manuel Coelho, have been awarded  €180000, of which €25000 provided by LPCC.

The protocol signed in early 2014 established this partnership, that involves LPCC’s potential future funding of Portuguese research teams in ERA-TRANSCAN projects, a European collaborative network with programmes in translational cancer research, composed of 25 partners from 19 European and Associated countries.

Finding ways to contribute to streamlining cancer screening, early diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and care is the main objective of the LPCC-FCT collaboration.
