The results of the Scientific Employment Stimulus – Individual Call 2017 have been released today. After Preliminary Hearing, 515 doctoral researcher employment contracts were approved in all scientific areas and in the four contractual levels. FCT will now send the Framework Contracts to the institutions to establish the funding agreements.
Two hundred and eighty contracts will be funded in the Junior Researcher level, 163 in the Assistant Researcher level, 68 in the Principal Researcher level and 4 in the Coordinating Researcher level. Of the 515 researchers selected, 53% are women. The results of the call also reveal the high internationalisation of Portuguese Science, as 100 researchers are foreigners – almost 20% of those selected for funding.
The candidates were selected through an evaluation and classification process carried out by 25 international panels and coordinated by José Carlos Marques dos Santos. The overall success rate was 12.5%: 12% of Junior Researcher candidates, 12.8% of Assistant Researcher candidates, 13.2% of Principal Researcher candidates and 57.1% of Coordinating Researcher candidates were selected for funding. A total of 173 contracts were awarded in Natural Sciences, 99 in Engineering and Technology, 72 in Arts and Humanities, 72 in Social Sciences, 64 in Medical and Health Sciences and 35 in Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.
The CEEC Individual Call is one of the funding instruments created to support the recruitment of PhD holders defined by the Scientific Employment Regulation, launched in 2017 by FCT following the publication of Decree-Law no. 57/2016. The 2nd edition of the call (2018) is open until 20 February. The application process will then be complemented by the association of the institutions to the candidates.
Currently, the hiring of researchers under the CEEC Institutional 2018, in which 400 places were allocated, is taking place at the institutions. In both calls, the employment contract is signed between the host institution and the researcher, and funded by FCT.
